It’s the biggest event dedicated to Women’s careers and improving organisations’ performance through increased diversity in workplace leadership. Through a series of HR Seminars, Conferences, Workshops and Networking facilities, we both identify for the corporate level the issues that need to be tackled and provide space for practical thinking and solutions-oriented activities. At an individual level, JUMP provides you with a unique blend of advice, tools and networking possibilities, which will enable you to improve your negotiation and leadership skills, achieve your goals and meet the right people. A range of inspirational speakers offer their expertise for the third edition of JUMP Forum. Among more than 30 speakers, we have presenters arriving from the US including Eleanor Tabi Haller-Jorden, the General Manager Catalyst Europe and Carol Frohlinger, CEO Negotiating Women and co-author of « Her place at the table ». Bringing a European focus are Helsinki’s Elisabeth Rehn, Presidential Candidate in Finland and First Woman Minister of Defence in the world; she has devoted her life to building peace in conflict areas, protecting women's rights and advancing their political and societal leadership. We also have Ellen Söentken, Entrepreneur, and Author of «De zeven ondeugden van vrouwelijke managers» coming from Amsterdam. This year we are focusing on the current dramatic economic situation by highlighting the economic incentive behind empowering Women. « Greater representation of Women in senior leadership positions within governments, companies and financial institutions is vital not only to find solutions to the current economic turmoil, but to stave off such crises in future. » said Klaus Schwab of the World Economic Forum. Iceland understood the lesson. It appointed a new female prime minister and two Women to run the two banks created by the government to save the country from bankruptcy. « It’s typical. The Men make the mess and the Women come in to clean it up. » (Financial Times) What other crisis do we need to take advantage of the talents of Women? If Women can truly fulfill all their talents, that means that Men and Women are finally escaping from stereotypes to become their own true selves, in other words, to be unique! Thanks to this collective transformation, Women and Men have never been closer to each other than now. We are currently moving towards a new collective and individual balancing of our masculinity/femininity. What’s good for Women is good for business and good for Men!

Published in the Financial Times, March 10 2009 - www.ft.comSir, As senior business school professors, involved in research and teaching on diversity and gender in leadership, we would like to register our dismay at the quality of debate on the role of women in the financial crisis. Specifically, we question the basis for current speculation that the meltdown might have been averted had more women been running the business world. Let us be clear, the business case for diversity is now well-established. Organisations that allow the best talent to enter, move up and express itself do better. This is far from being the case in many of our largest global corporations – and we believe that organisations which move quickly and efficiently to eradicate the barriers will be winners, crisis or no crisis. But we are deeply troubled by claims that women are inherently more risk-averse or cautious or prudent than men, and that this essential nature somehow makes women more suited to leading in a downturn (see, for example, “Why women managers shine in a downturn”, March 2). Such assertions have little or no empirical support in a business context. These speculations also come with dangerous implications. Are men therefore better suited to managing growth or leading businesses through healthier economic times? We’d be the first to argue for greater inclusiveness and a more diverse leadership to lead us out of this mess. But let us beware of perpetuating unfounded stereotypes along the way.
Met gemiddeld zeven procent vrouwen in Belgische bestuursraden van grote bedrijven scoort ons land beroerd in de European Board Women Monitor 2008. Slechts 44 procent van de Belgische grote bedrijven heeft vrouwen in de bestuursraad. Voor de vergelijking: in Europa zetelen vrouwelijke bestuursleden in gemiddeld drievierde van de ondernemingen. Voor de negen Belgische bedrijven gaat het om welgeteld tien vrouwelijke bestuursleden op een totaal van 142 bestuurszitjes. Via de European Board Women Monitor maakt het European Professionals Women’s Network (EPWN) i.s.m. Egon Zehnder International om de twee jaar een stand van zaken op. Het aandeel vrouwen in bestuursraden in de Europese top 300 bedrijven bedraagt nu 9,7 procent. Geen een op tien vrouwen dus. Read more

One of the best things about Mommy Track’d is its attitude: its role as cheerleader for working moms. There may be disagreements among its writers and subscribers, but they don’t snipe and snarl at one another as they do on other sites called out by Ayelet Waldman in her new book, Bad Mother, scheduled for release in May. In it, she points to the vitriol directed these days at “bad mothers,” blasted at them in books and magazines and especially in blogs, where it’s possible to insult others with ease, anonymity, and apparent lack of consequence.. What is it, she asks, about parenting, about motherhood in particular, that allows us to indulge our inner scold about other people’s choices – about sleep training, feeding, schooling, immunizing, and on and on? Where did all this sanctimony and self-righteousness come from and what can we do to protect ourselves from it? In Waldman’s own words, she has written “ a book about the perils and joys of trying to be a decent mother in a world intent on making you feel like a bad one.” Read more

Il y a dix ans, Mia* était une femme heureuse, généreuse et occupée. Âgée de 28 ans, elle avait un emploi à temps plein, allait au gym trois jours par semaine et était très occupée avec ses amis et sa famille. L'été, elle faisait des excursions en canot, passait des week-ends à la campagne et ses vacances étaient très actives physiquement, comme faire de la randonnée dans le Grand Canyon et du camping en Islande. En juin de l'année de ses 28 ans, Mia a eu une mononucléose et avec ça, tout a changé. Durant la première partie de sa maladie, elle s'est sentie extrêmement faible et elle était incapable de prendre soin d'elle-même - le simple fait de mettre ses souliers lui demandait un très grand effort physique.
